Two women. One shared passion. A journey worth sharing.
We're Mary and Sarah, co-founders of OpenBound Journey.
Two independent, adventurous women whose paths led to each other, bringing together a shared love for the outdoors, a curiosity for the unknown, and a belief that life is meant to be experienced.
We've chased waterfalls, climbed mountains, slept under the stars, and discovered that the best adventures are about more than the destination. They're about connection, discovery, and stepping outside what's familiar.
Somewhere between the miles of hiking, long drives, and conversations around camp, we started dreaming about something bigger.
What if we could make adventure easier and inspire others to find their own?
That's how OpenBound Journey began.
We set out to create a platform that brings together adventure planning, discovery, and community in one place. A space where technology makes exploring easier, connections happen naturally, and everyone feels empowered to experience something new.
We're not just building an app. We're building something we believe in, inspired by the adventures that brought us together and the ones still ahead.

What we believe
Fewer barriers to the trailhead
Most people don't skip the outdoors because they don't want to go — they skip it because planning is work. We take on that work.
Honest information
We pull from public land agencies, weather services and open maps, and we tell you when something is an estimate rather than a fact.
Leave it better
Plans that respect permits, closures, quiet hours and the places themselves. Good trips don't cost the ground anything.
Where we are today
Journey is an early version, built and improved alongside the people using it. If something is wrong, missing, or just annoying, tell us — that's how most of what's here got made.
